Genomics and Epigenomics - modulo Genomics and Epigenomics of Gene Regulation
This course, integrated with its twin, Genomics and Epigenomics, intends to guide the students in the gradual understanding of the complexity of the mechanisms regulating gene expression, including epigenetic modifications and how they are regulated, under both physiological and pathological conditions. The topics include transcription factors, their structure and their mechanisms of function, co-activators and co-repressors, epigenetic modifications and how they are regulated and interpreted, the tridimensional structure of the genome and how it is determined and impacts on gene expression. Finally, the RNAworld will come into the picture, from RNA interference to the multiple roles of short and long non coding RNAs, concluding with the epigenetic modifications of the RNAs.
